The Colosseum was build between 70 and 82 a.C. Originally the building was a 4 level high amphitheater. The marble steps offered
seats to about 45.000 people. The original name is Flavian Amphiteater, but is better known under the name the Colosseum that
originated from the hughe (colos) statue of Emperor Nero that used be near the theater.
Gladiators fought each other in this theater and on a regular basis Christians were thrown before the lions.
Even sea battles have been recontructed by floading the theater.
